The curse of over automation

The-Curse-of-Automation

Don’t get us wrong, we love automation. We’ve seen how much of a positive impact it can have. We’ve also seen places where it’s not the right time or place to use automation.

Automation can save time, reduce errors, and free up teams to focus on more important work. That’s the dream, right?

Here are some times where you might want to pump the brakes on automating:

  • New processes
  • New systems
  • Undefined, unclear, or fuzzy logic

With a new process it’s usually better for the team to experiment and develop a strong standard operating process before automating. Once there is a clear, tested, and documented process then it’s the time to choose bits and pieces to start automating.

When you’re working with a new system it takes time to learn the ins and outs of what it does out of the box and what you can get it to do with some customization.

If you’ve ever felt like you need a flowchart to understand a flowchart, you might be suffering from the curse of over automation.

So if you’re staring at a pile of Zaps, scripts, triggers, and tags and wondering why things feel harder, not easier… you’re not alone.

Start simple. Build smart. Automate intentionally.
