Empowering Small Businesses Since 2003: Innovation, Strategy, Success

Are you underutilizing funnels?

Most of us are familiar with the concept of an online sales funnel: ads -> clicks -> landing pages -> nurture -> sales. But a funnel mindset can be useful in a broad variety of situations.

We recently came across a recording of a presentation from Jack Conte, the co-founder and CEO of Patreon, where he discusses how he used funnel thinking to help book a doctor’s appointment.

Funnel thinking wasn’t the main point of his talk, but it got us thinking about other applications of the idea of a funnel.

Do you have a problem or situation that could benefit by applying some funnel thinking to it?

Here are some examples that show how broadly this can be applied:

Car Buying

Instead of hunting for one “perfect” car, make a list of 20 solid options, test drive 10, get serious about 5, negotiate on 3, and buy 1 that hits the sweet spot.

Choosing a Book to Read

Pick 10 titles that look good, browse through 6 of them, choose 3 to read a chapter from, commit to 1 book.

Automate a Repetitive Tasks

List 5 annoying tasks, identify 3 that happen weekly, pick 1 to automate with Zapier or a script.

Job Hunting
Instead of searching and applying for the one “perfect” job, make a list of 20 possible options, make a few customized applications and submit to the best fit, hopefully land some interviews, get a few offers and choose the best one.

Hiring an automation expert

Search and find 10 potential companies to hire, book consultation calls, see whose processes and expertise align with your needs, maybe hire 2 or 3 to tackle a small project, give bigger projects to the best option.
